Ifixit login/logout anomaly (bug?)

Hi @jarstelfox

Previously when logged into Ifixit Answers and then opening another window for Ifixit Meta, I found that I was then also already logged into Meta.

Now when having logged into Answers and opening a Meta window there is a Log In link on the Meta page and when clicking on it I’m logged in automatically without a user name/password being required.

When logging out of Meta, this logs me out of Answers as well. However when logging out of Answers I’m still left logged in on Meta.

I’m fairly sure that before when logging in/out of either Answers or Meta it also did the same to the other.

I sometimes have both open in case I need to report spam ;-)

@jayeff,

Thanks for all the info!

You found an edge case with some of our recent changes.

Under the hood, the iFixit Meta site was part of the iFixit Site: Two websites in one! This had some quirks. To remedy the situation we recently turned Meta into a unique separate site.

Although the hope was for the change to be seamless, it seems we still have some work to do.

To fully explain what you are seeing:

When you log in to meta.ifixit.com it actually asks iFixit.com to log you in. Similarly, when you ask meta to log you out, it actually asks iFixit.com to log you out.

The bug here is that logic is one way: Meta tells iFixit to log in or log out. However, iFixit doesn’t tell meta to log in or log out.

Let me see what we can do to improve the situation.

Thanks again!

Hi @jarstelfox ,

Thanks for the update.

One more thing I noticed - When posting an answer there seems to be a delay at the end before the post is finally loaded on the screen. Sometimes it says "read.script.crazyegg.com" or "transferring data from assets.ifixit.cdn.com" or "read.guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com" or "transferring data from www.facebook.com...." Mostly it is read.script.crazyegg.com but I can't see a definite pattern. The URLs may not be totally accurate as they're not there for long, only a few seconds if that and my eyes aren't that good anymore, so hopefully you may know of them ;-)

What alerted me to this was that the screen seemed to jump (not always though) i.e. the answer appeared on the screen as seemingly posted but then after a delay the screen jumped and then it was the same page or I couldn't see any noticeable difference. During the "delay time" at the bottom of the browser (Firefox - Win 10) were the indications of what was happening (described previously).

It also happens when I moderate answers/comments, click back to previous page etc.

I haven't noticed it on Meta but then I don't post as often on it as I do on Answers. It could be at my end but it only appeared recently and doesn't happen on other websites that I frequent

Cheers
