The Bug Catchers Net: Q3 2023

Hello Meta!

We really appreciate you sharing bugs (big and small) so we can keep our site running smoothly. Here's our new folder!

For an inside peak on how we do things, as sometimes it may seem like nothing happens with these, this is what we do with your bugs:

  1. I write up your bug in a report for our QA and Developer teams.
  2. QA works their magic to replicate the bug. If we can't make it happen again, we can't figure out how it went wrong.
  3. Once we know exactly what's wrong, QA sends the bug report to our developers where it gets ranked against all the work the developers do (which is a lot). Bugs that are annoying but not preventing the site from working will rank lower than something that prevents users from doing stuff. They also go up against long term projects, improvements, and general maintenance.
  4. Sometimes, if a bug isn't such a big deal and we have a project coming up that will have the developers poking around in the same pile of code, we'll set it aside for when that time comes.

Remember, share as much detail as you have about the bug (the more we know, the faster we can fix it):

  • Where you saw it (URL's are great!)
  • What you were trying to do and what happened instead.
  • Screenshots if you’ve got ‘em!

I accidentally added an s to @hainzy and now I can't correct it. My phone keyboard will act like I erased it, but it's still there.

@maulwurfente have you tried deleting the complete tag (including the @) and tagging me again?

@hainzy I can't. My keyboard already thinks it has deleted up to the "n" from "von", but the tag is still there. If I highlight and delete the whole post the tag will still remain.

@maulwurfente Can you verify who your phone manufacturer is, what version of Android you're running, and the version of Gboard (or the keyboard software) you're using?

@andrewsawesome I'm using a Pixel 3a with GrapheneOS SP2A.220505.008.2023020600 (Android 12L) and have gboard 13.1.07.536370540-release-arm64-8va installed. My browser is Firefox 115.2.1.

Links in iFixit Answers emails not working

Instead of send.ifixit.com, the email links to http://answers/View/705720/Wireless+internet+connection+doesn't+work+after+win10+update (ifixit.com part missing)

What happened?

Note: This started July 26th (the first Answers email I got from that day eas at 6:42 AM EST, and it had the broken link)

Sometimes German users write their question in English, but as they enter it in the German interface, it still ends up in the DE forum. In this case, actually only the title was in English, the text of the actual question is German.

I've translated the title now, you'll be able to do that yourself once you reach 50,000 reputation points ;-)

@mariaparker @sandrahiller that's not what I meant. It says , for example, "edited by author vor 16 Stunden von David Torosyan" or "answer accepted Gestern von Naseanwalt" in the German interface. The interface itself seems to not be fully translated.

Can you check the timestamp logs on https://meta.ifixit.com/Badge/NiceAnswer and post them here for the times that you were awarded the badge in the image you provided?

If an area edit gets accepted, the message in the activity tab doesn't correctly link to the device. It links to [URL of the device]_Repair (Maybe the display title?), so in this case it links to https://www.ifixit.com/Device/History/Pa... .

This isn't really a bug, but the new phone image is mirrored compared to the rest of the new images, as it points top left instead of top right, as the rest of the images do...

When I try to open a question I am getting three different colored circles Brown, Grey and yellow.. I can't vote or answer questions anymore. It seems to happen on questions that have an answer posted but not on ones that have no answer. This started after I transitioned to Monterey 12.7. The question will show up like a printed page on a piece of paper. But on one out of four questions it opens normally.
