Will ifixit be sharing a keyboard replacement teardown?

Curious as to why ifixit hasn't done a keyboard teardown considering and due to the fact that there a lot of folks like myself who need to replace a broken keyboard/ ribbon connector? The reason why I'm curious is because ifixit repair instructions are clear, extremely detailed and they're precise chur for that. Looking forward to your feedback

Answer this question I have this problem too

Replacing the keyboard connector on what device? There are thousands and thousands of products covered by iFixit.

@Kyle - I think his focus was MacBook's & MacBook Pro's

On the Retina? That's way beyond the target demographic of iFixit. You have to drill the keyboard out, and do a screw replacement or replace the whole palmrest on the Retina.

It's not impossible. Just a pain to do.

@Nick - Mayer has a technique to remove the battery without damaging it by using methanol alcohol to break the adhesive bond. As to the rivets they are a snap rivet which one can pop out. The problem is trying to replace them if you break or loose them.

The problem is so many people are spilling junk on their keyboard they either need to clean them or replace them. We crate up 20 - 30 upper cases and send them to Singapore where they are restored and shipped back.

The problem with the rivet removal is screw one up, and you will never, ever be able to put a screw there. It will never work again.

The batteries are a different story. Alcohol is different from a drill risking it going very, very wrong.

Which is why I let someone else have the fun of playing with the rivets ;-} Now with Mayer's trick we pull the batteries, test them and then replace if needed when we get the upper case back on the few Retinas we do have.

The Retina keyboards I have replaced have screws around the perimeter. The rivets generally pop out when you rip the keyboard out. Some break of just the head of the rivet but the peg remains, which holds the keyboard in place. If there are to many use dikes to grab and pull. Just order the keyboards that come with screws. Dan, glad you found my trick useful.
