Is this bug in the system?

Hi,

When looking at a link (LNT 40538 disassembly) in this answer to a question

https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/3380...

it opens on my screen basically using only a third of the available area. (see image)

Block Image

It is not only happening with this particular answer, this is just an example. It seems to be only happening when opening PDF documents inside a browser. It happens in both Google Chrome and IE9. Opening PDF documents inside my browsers from other websites utilize the full screen area normally used.

I cannot try it on another PC to prove whether the problem is at my end or yours, so apologies if it is my PC.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I suspect OldTurkey didn't grab the whole PDF file (LNT 40538 disassembly). I'm not encountering issues with any other PDF file. Are you able to access this PDF? MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 AirPort Antenna Replacement

jayeff and @danj I just verified the file locally and by downloading it again. Displays without any issues on my end.

@Jayeff & @oldturkey03 - Yep! its a Bug! The internal file handler within IFIXIT appears to have a problem with PDF's. The IFIXIT team altered it so now when you click on an imbedded object it opens the file in its own window, this is working with JPEG images with not problem.

@danj, @oldturkey03, and @jayeff, thanks for pointing this out. The iFixit team is working on a fix, dealing with this and related issues with PDFs. We'll post here when the update goes out, which will hopefully be soon!

It very well could be a bug! It's loading fine for me. What browser are you using? We'll check it out. You can always download PDFs directly by going to their meta page with a bit of url-hackery: https://www.ifixit.com/Document/meta/247...

@kyle - When you open the file within the Q only the top 1/3 shows up but you can scroll through the file within this 1/3 sized window (no visible slide on the right though).

I tried pasting a PDF here and got an error. I then did a test within an answer with OT's file I had downloaded and one I had downloaded from Samsung both reacted in the same way.

BTW: I love the new method in how the file handler is working otherwise!

Yes! The direct access to the Meta URL pops the whole document Vs within the Answer field when you click on it there. I'm using Safari under El Capitan

Hi, Thank you all for the quick responses. @kyle when I open your link above it opens in a new full window. When I open the example file in my question it opens in the same window but only the top 1/3. Like Dan I can scroll through the whole document so nothing is missing only the sizing makes it difficult. I have tried on both Chrome and IE9

@danj When I click on the file in your comment above, it opens ok in full new window.

by

@Jayeff - The fact you can open the file in my comment proves the issue is within the way the file handler within the IFIXIT site is presenting the file is the issue (as proxy).

Hi @danj Cheers Dan. Glad that you proved where the problem is and also pleased with the quick response from the Ifixit team
