The spam is gone.

Didn't know that you had posted the question with all the spam comments and answers here already. I removed all the spam before I posted here with the most prolific spammers and then noticed your post and it rang a bell - see answer below

I hope the smoke is not too much in SLO’ville. My heart breaks seeing the fires in all of CA and the heavy loss of people , animals, insects and all of the fauna.

Climate change is real! And this is just the beginning if we don’t make drastic change! iFixit is at the forefront of the needed change!

It has been pretty bad here with the smoke however we are extremely fortunate that the fires haven't reached SLO. I'm with you about all of the people, animals, trees, etc. It is heartbreaking. I'm really thankful to work for a company that cares and is doing something positive and active to combat it!

Hi @jayeff, that's super weird, when I clicked on the link yesterday it showed up as the same account to #2 so I thought it was taken care of. Today when I clicked the link it was different. The third one is banned as well! Sorry about that!

Can you tell me why this particular post would attract so much spam? The question is not even 3 years old. (click on Show Deleted to view how many spam posts have been posted over time, Comments and Answers)

I’ve come to recognize it as soon as I see it appearing in the Answers Index list and every time it is a spam post and not an answer/comment about the problem.

I’m bemused by this

Hi @jayeff, thanks for catching that one! I've taken care of it :) Also, in regards to the post that attracted so much spam, I wasn't completely sure about this so I consulted @jogihara and he said he's come across a few like this too. He thinks that some questions just generate more interest from bots in general but he's not totally sure why either. I'll ask around and try to get more information. Thanks again!

Hi @jayeff, I just wanted to follow-up. I also spoke with @kristen and she said that she has come across certain questions that just seem to draw multiple spam answers. They are usually popular devices so I'm not sure if this meets the pattern. I wish I had more information for you.

May not be “spam”, but the answers from Alexander Nguyen are misleading and even after I told them the reality of the situation, they still believe it can be done. Just a heads up they may need to be warned about it at this point.

If you feel strongly about it because you have tried to reason with this person, you could decide to downvote a particular answer.

@sarahw I felt so strong about it because of my huge read me about how I know and the myth still goes around. I did tell them in one why and they continue.
