Can we get a "water damaged" section

So much time is wasted because this issue is not dealt with by the forums structure. I am new here, I realize that. In my short time here I have contributed a lot. I see 5 - 10 water damage related posts a day. The answers to these questions are boiler plate. The people coming in from the web refuse to do a search on this subject, like they were the first to drop their iPod into the toilet or iPhone in the washer. How you deal with it is the same, only the tear down is different.

Most of the unresolved questions are over 8 months old and water damage related. In my opinion they aren't unresolved, just questions that were ignored. For what reason I don't know. If this were my web site I wouldn't want 309 pages of unresolved questions for Google to get a hold of and still growing. Just a thought.

I agree... It's why I've asked for filters and tags... So we can clean up unanswered Q's and merge duplicates. As for water damage... It needs a proper guide with quality pictures, somthing I don't have the facilities to do, but it's a really good idea to add to the repair/solution sections.

Hey ABCellars, great suggestions. Some of the things you suggest need some code changes on our part, and some we can all start solving right away.

Troubleshooting pages are easy to write and add to. If a water damage troubleshooting is specific to a device, then you should improve / create the device-specific troubleshooting page. Example.

But a lot of these questions can be solved by general water damage troubleshooting information. So let's make a really good page that explains all the options, and link everyone to that! I just started a page. Let's all pitch in and make it the top place on the internet to learn what to do when you have water damage.

If there is a specific procedure (like cleaning dried salt water from a circuit board), then we should take photos and make a guide, then link it from that page.

We have a plan for dealing with the old 'unanswered' questions, because I completely agree with you that they aren't relevant. We're a ways out from a solution on that because it's requiring a while to code, but we'll get there, I promise.

A good way to start on the water damage page would be to search through Answers for the top-rated water damage solutions and reformat them for a long-term article. Post here as you make progress, and I'll chime in with formatting help.

I just went in and updated the formatting of the page. Could someone please update the writing style to be more declarative? We want it to come across as general best practices, not @oldturkey03's opinions. (Even though we all know he's an expert, it's important to have a consistent writing style throughout the wiki.)
