Any ETA on the E7440 battery?
I have 2 E7440’s I got dirt cheap, but neither included a battery. However, I did find one in the junk laptop I bought for the FHD Touch panel which I tried to make work was sold with one that held a charge, so I figured I was set on the battery problem. However, it has always had an issue with unusual expansion and I did confirm it has a possible cell issue - whatever, it’s a 389+ cycle pack. It had 83% health, so it wasn’t like so many of these with low health where it’s a unnecessary risk!
However, while I was able to get the top to make it look okay I need to get another one since the OEM flat packs are somewhat known for this exact issue with high cycles and misuse (however, a properly cared for high cycle will probably be fine) and mine was affected. In addition, I’ll eventually need it for the other one because I need to update the BIOS at some point to remove the asset tag.
Is there an ETA when the E7440 battery will be in stock again? https://www.ifixit.com/Store/PC-Laptop/D...
Is this a good question?

@kristen Sadly I suspect it may be a while due to Covid remote learning. I'm not shocked since the old OEM flat cell packs are often plagued with this issue, especially with years of deep discharging - I had a feeling once it felt off. Never see this on the E6 18650 pack - they just run like crap and never properly calibrate once it's bad enough or go into the 30-39% health range, which is the magic number that tells you it's time. I held out since it had ~83% health but only ran for 2-3 hours max, which is not a good sign.
Part of the problem is I'm probably going to be last to get them because I bought mine as a gamble seeing as the version I have is worth $250 working - and I got 2 as a lot super cheap. Everyone else is buying up the 768p i5-4300U SKU for remote learning, but my i7 Touch machines (WiGig ready!) got passed over due to a boot problem. Few come with batteries since they're a potential problem, especially high cycle.
Mine was fine, until I charged it once. It happened after one charge, and it got worse.
