Spam Folder April 2022

Hi everyone!

Happy April! Last month we caught 40 (+3 that came in on the 1st in the March folder) spammers. At first I thought there were more spammers, but maybe we're just getting better at finding them. :D

Please post any spammy content you find on iFixit so that @krisrodriguez, @jogihara@kristen@sarahw, and I can get rid of them.

Thank you!

In the future, can you share their userid (the number that appears in their profile, mine is 3812521 for example) rather than their @tag? It's much easier for me to find accounts that way. Thank you!! =]

I think that it's suspicious to send multiple links of the same like this, the link itself doesn't really look like it's to a real website ether but rather something else. I'm not 100%, but I feel like it may be something to take a look at.

Guide #72913 claims to be an "iPhone 4s disassembly" but the only thing removed is the battery. I would relabel it as a battery replacement, but that already exists.

by

@guardian10 , we actually want it to be labeled "disassembly" because you could technically use this guide (not only to remove the battery), but also to disassemble the phone to where you can access all the internal components. Does that make sense?

@guardian10 comment/Question removed as inappropriate. As for the mocking, everybody is entitled to their opinion. We are not censors and no matter if we agree or disagree with their point of view, everybody has the right to express their opinion. as long as it does not include profanity etc. ;-)

@guardian10 , we appreciate you looking out for us, but @oldturkey03 is right on this one.

by

@krisrodriguez I am kind of proud of @guardian10 to feel that strongly about that. I understand the anger/frustration and disappointment in some of what gets expressed but we need to continue to talk about those things. The moment we stop discussing things, bad things happen!

Hi @guardian10, thank you for bringing up this account. I've read though their posts and most of them seem to be either correct, getting the user in the right direction, or at least helpful in some way. I won't be intervening with this account. If you see them starting to break community guidelines, let me know!

As the Answers forum is a forum, users are aware that any advice they receive from other community members are all speculation. Part of the reason why we have Moderators (labeled with their shield) and our reputation system are to show users how much (or little) a person has contributed. The more reputation a person has, the more trustworthy they are.

The best way to learn is to participate and learn along with other people contributing to the forum. I'm sure some of our long time contributors have given the wrong information at some point on our forum or even botched a repair (or two!) in their lives. They all have learned from their experiences and grown to the be amazing resources they are today.

by

@amber I've had things die attempting a repair as well, like that 800 G4. It was having very strange issues where it would not stay off and I even bought 90W 19.5V adapter when the 18.5 adapter was potentially at play.

After stripping the unit down bit by bit, I tried a BIOS update and it never worked right again, but the CPU, RAM and a few other parts were usable -- in fact, the 800 G4 was used to finish a barebone 600 G4. I suspect the SPI flash was corrupted enough it would work but the moment you flashed the BIOS it would be rejected and not come back.
