SEO Considerations (Follow vs. NoFollow)

I will tag @evan on this question because I don't really know who I should address it to within the iFixit men and women of power (for good measure, I'll add @kaykay and @kyle).

I have been doing a bit of research on SEO lately and I noticed that any links generated from my profile page are tagged as NoFollow. My understanding is (I'm still a neophyte) that Google doesn't pass along as much (or any) link juice (I didn't make this up ;>) to the "referred to" site when that tag is in place. Link juice is important for increasing your website's authority and therefore page ranking when people search on Google.

Now I understand why iFixit would want to set NoFollow as a default in order to discourage spammers from overtaking the Forum with useless contributions solely for the purpose of backlinks. However, I wonder if exceptions could be made for the "real" contributors to the success of this website. Perhaps only giving out Follow links from the profile page when a threshold Reputation limit is achieved would discourage spammers but compensate true contributors.

Let's discuss!

It would be real nice if iFixit would have our backs ok this. I mean we help the community because we want to. And enjoy doing so. With that being said, we're also independent business owners, and sometimes ever dollar counts. Little..how'd you call it? Link juice? @evan can I have four link juice boxes?

Hey Minho,

Everything you said is spot on in regards to SEO link juice. We do make exceptions from time to time and I think creating a rep threshold is a great suggestion. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do for your account specifically.

Thanks :)

@kaykay and I get left out??

Thanks @kaykay. Hopefully you'll be able to do something about this as I agree with @theimedic ...this is a symbiotic relationship ( I guess that makes me the clownfish ;>). There are certainly others out there who actively contribute to the success of the forum who should also benefit, such as iMedic, Benjamen50. jayeff, jimfixer, lpfaff etc...not to mention of course our leaders Mayer, OT and Dan. That is, if they don't already benefit but that's okay, I don't need to know all of iFixit's secrets.

I'm left out too??

In other words, "Link juice" moves your answers up in google searches? That could be useful. That could be useful for guides too. If I search for the exact title of one of my public guides it still won't show up.

I'll get back on answers soon, if you guys can do it while managing a business certainly I can do it while homeschooling.
