Obscure bug in ifixit forums

Hi @evan,

Have noticed this bug has been happening for a while (about a month or so).

When clicking on a question to view it, only half of the OP’s avatar image displays (sometimes only a quarter).

When the page is refreshed the entire image is displayed.

initially I thought that it only occurred on user defined avatars but it does it on the ifixit default ones as well.

It is intermittent and occurs in both the ifixit Answer forum and in the ifixitmeta forum.

I have tried it on several Windows PCs (all Win 10 latest version) and it only occurs when viewing the page using the Google Chrome browser. (has been occurring on last 3 updates to Chrome)

It does not occur when using Firefox or Windows Edge. (or I haven’t struck it happening yet)

I’m wondering if there is some compatibility problem with Chrome.

This is a strange bug. I'm not sure we'll be able to reproduce it, but we can certainly try!

FWIW it also manifests on linux chrome all the time in last few months. Mine is currently: Version 75.0.3770.100 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Hey @jayeff. I've discussed this with one of our devs. Both of us have experienced this issue intermittently, but we're thinking it might be a Chrome error. Have you noticed this happen on other sites as well?

No I haven't.

Chrome works OK for me with everything else except for this and an audio syncing problem when viewing YouTube and I'm not the only one having that problem either.

I agree that it may be a Chrome problem or at least a Chrome / ifixit compatibility problem, as I have never experienced it when using Firefox or Win Edge to view ifixit.

As the avatar image is completed when refreshing the page, maybe it's the 15,000+ Km between ifixit and me and Chrome is too slow the first time around ;-)

Yes.

It occurs all the time now, not intermittently as before, although I'm no longer seeing any "quarter" filled avatars as shown above, now only the half filled avatars are showing.

As stated before, refreshing the page brings up the whole avatar.

Still only occurs when using Chrome browser, Firefox and Edge are OK

Current Chrome Version 75.0.3770.142 (Official Build) (32-bit)

The weird thing is it only shows when you click on a question and not when you get a whole page of questions.

Also just tried one again now on ifixitmeta and the OP avatar was only half filled but the Answer avatar was complete.

Apologies i clicked the wrong option and should have selected update to question instead of answer ;-(
